Calcatari are small, hairless sapient beings indigenous to the tunnel systems of Umbriel VII. Prior to their discovery, these creatures existed in a state of significant primitivism and underdevelopment. Upon their encounter with technologically advanced spacefaring species, they experienced a rushed advancement into technological reliance, which has rendered them utterly dependent on machinery and tools they are unable to manufacture themselves. The Calcatari hadn't even understood sewing by the time they were given large generators. Consequently, Solgov periodically supplies the populated areas of Umbriel VII with prefabricated housing and essential facilities via airdrops. For most Calcatari, the inner workings of modern machines are a mystery and frankly, they dont care. They just work. The Calcatari's biological limitations hinder their ability to manipulate most machines effectively, and their backs are unable to support heavy objects like backpacks.
After a trader hovering over Umbriel VII mentioned programming to Cogi briefly over comms, he became enraptured by the idea of bending a machine to his will. He was unable to find means of exercising this magic of creation, so he signed up as a circuit designer for Nanotrasen. Every other shift, he returns to his homestead on Umbriel to tend to his roaches and enjoy a much-needed break.
